Failing to Plan Your Medical Website SEO is Planning to Fail

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of the first things that should come to mind for medical marketing professionals when it comes to your medical website.  Every day you are subject to SEO through ads and articles that dominate every page you view online. Marketing groups might promise you SEO for $99 dollars, 1st-page rankings, and sometimes a free car.  So if you get anything out of this article, please understand this: SEO is not inexpensive and has no 100% guarantees. However, SEO is a vital investment for any medical group wanting to reach new patients or customers online and like any good investment, you should have a plan.

Make your Medical Website SEO plan

A common mistake that most marketers make is not thinking about SEO from the start of their medical website redesign but rather at the end.  The whole idea of medical website SEO can feel overwhelming but it doesn’t need to be.

First, write down your SEO strategy.  Failing to plan your new medical website SEO is planning to fail!  Keep these steps in mind while planning:

  • Audit your existing site
  • Identify and include commonly searched keywords
  • Set up 301 redirects from your old site to your new site
  • Consider URL structure and include keywords
  • Audit your Backlinks and remove shady backlinks
  • Use responsive design
  • Unblock search engines so they can crawl your site
  • Add analytics to track your new site
  • Remember to think like a human when it comes to SEO
