Michael Winkleman

CEO & Founder

Michael Winkleman has spent over two decades doing what most people in healthcare never get to do — sitting with patients and listening to the stories they rarely tell their providers.

As CEO and Founder of PatientX, Michael has interviewed hundreds of patients and healthcare professionals across the country, standing inside surgery suites, sitting in waiting rooms, and walking the hallways of healthcare facilities to capture what people actually experience when they seek care — not what the chart says happened, but what it felt like to be in the room.

That work became CONNECT: The Patient’s Voice — Listening, Leading, and Transforming Care, the first book in a three-part series that translates real patient voices into actionable strategies for healthcare leaders and teams. The book’s core message is one Michael has carried through every engagement in his career: Listening is the intervention. Everything else follows from there.

Michael’s approach bridges the gap between patient voice and organizational strategy. He helps healthcare organizations turn what patients feel into what teams do — aligning leadership, energizing frontline staff, and building the kind of trust that drives loyalty, reputation, and growth from the inside out.

His work has been featured in more than 25 industry publications, including Becker’s Healthcare Review, Midwest Med, Med News, and Avera Cancer Magazine. He speaks nationally on patient experience, communication strategy, and the leadership behaviors that build cultures of connection.

Michael is based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he leads PatientX alongside his wife, Kimberly. His mission hasn’t changed since day one: elevate the voices of patients and the people who care for them — and make sure those voices shape what gets built next.

"Embracing the power of data and AI in healthcare marketing isn't just an opportunity; it's the cornerstone of a transformative era. By harnessing these technologies, facilities can not only advance their marketing strategies but also redefine the very essence of care. The growth potential is boundless, as we pave the way for smarter decisions, personalized patient experiences, and a future where health and innovation converge, shaping a world where every interaction is not just a touchpoint but a breakthrough."
