In 2025, PatientX built a coloring book. Not as a portfolio piece. Not as a campaign. As a donation. Copies of Commander Cosmo and the Mission to Save the Moon were distributed to children spending time in hospitals across the United States, Guatemala, Colombia, and Ukraine. Over 1,000 books. Four countries. Kids who had no idea what PatientX was.
That project just received an Aster Award for healthcare marketing excellence.
What the Aster Awards Recognize
The Aster Awards have been honoring excellence in healthcare marketing and advertising for more than a quarter-century. Entries are evaluated by a panel of marketing and creative professionals on creativity, message effectiveness, design, production quality, and strategic execution. The competition is selective.
Ours placed in the top 12 percent of entries nationwide, in the Healthcare Advertising Agency group, Self Promotion – Series category. Which means PatientX wasn’t making the case for a client. It was making the case for itself.
The Project Behind the Recognition
Commander Cosmo and the Mission to Save the Moon was written and illustrated by the PatientX team. The story follows an astronaut on a mission to repair the Moon’s broken lights so it can shine again. Every page gave a child something to color, a puzzle to solve, a small world to step into for a little while.
Behind the story were the same values that drive everything PatientX does: heart, innovation, and honesty. The book wasn’t designed to win anything. It was designed to reach children spending the holidays in a hospital bed. With the support of sponsors, clients, and creative partners, more than 1,000 copies were printed and distributed alongside toys and care packages.
Each one represented a moment of comfort for a child in need.
Why This Recognition Means Something
The Aster judges evaluated Commander Cosmo on industry standards: creativity, design, message effectiveness, and production quality. It held up on every measure.
But what the award points back to is simpler than a scoring rubric. A team asked what they could make that would actually reach someone. The answer was a coloring book. Simple. Specific. Real. And because the answer was that honest, the work carried weight: in the hands of children across four countries, and now in a national recognition for healthcare marketing excellence.
The Mission Continues
The award is new. The work behind it isn’t.
Commander Cosmo exists because a team believed a small creative idea could reach someone who needed it. That belief is still here. At PatientX, we keep looking for the places where creativity and care can meet: because that is where the most meaningful work happens, and because every small spark has the power to light up the world.
